Great news for our international partners. Estonia will increase the Film Estonia cash rebate from 30% to 40%, strengthening the country’s competitiveness in the international film production market.
“It’s official. Minister Heidy Purga has confirmed the final step of a long process: 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝟒𝟎% 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐕 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Regulations still need to be updated — and then, let’s roll!” stated Edith Sepp, head of the Estonian Film Institute.
Launched in 2016 and managed by the Estonian Film Institute, the Film Estonia cash rebate programme aims to attract international productions, boost audiovisual exports and generate economic impact across multiple sectors.
According to Estonia’s Minister of Culture Heidy Purga, the initiative has already proven its value:
“Film Estonia has demonstrated a strong positive economic impact, creating jobs not only in the film sector but across many industries. Together with the new film studios currently being built in Jõhvi and Tallinn, this marks an important step forward for the development of the industry.”
Estonia is ready to strengthen its position as a filming destination. The increase in the Film Estonia cash rebate from 30% to 40% will take effect in about a month.
Film Estonia will be attending the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin on 14–16 February.
You’ll find us at Gropius Bau, on the second floor at the Estonian Film Institute stand (G12).
